5 Ways to Beef Up a Wilson Livestock Trailer
Wilson Trailers is THE Livestock Brand, when it comes to making an aluminum livestock trailer that last the test of time Wilson doesn't cut any corners. They equip their trailers with beefed up standard features that other manufactures don't offer but that's not where the durability stops.
A Wilson Gooseneck livestock trailer will come standard with 9" on center floor crossmembers, .110 thick aluminum floor, and greaseable door hinges. But there are ways to beef it up even more for all the heavy haulers out there!!
1.) U-Tube Style Crossmembers
These are mini versions of the cross bracing that Wilson uses on their semi livestock trailers. Livestock trailers see shifting, concentrated loads (cattle bunching up, horses stepping hard, etc.).
U-tube crossmembers:
Distribute weight evenly
Reduce floor flex
Help prevent premature floor fatigue
2.) Upgrading the Aluminum Floor to .125 or .156 Thickness
3.) Tube Style Cut Gates
Tubing resists bending and twisting better. Handles pressure from cattle leaning or hitting the gate. Holds up better over years of heavy use
4.) Interior Bump Rail
The bump rail is a reinforced rail running along the inside of the trailer’s sidewalls. Its primary purpose is to boost the structural strength and rigidity of the trailer sides, helping resist impacts and pressures from livestock pushing against the walls during loading, hauling, and unloading
5.) Adding a Stainless Steel Wear Strip to the Rear Door
With all of the opening and shutting of the rear slide door without the stainless steel strip on top of the aluminum you could eventually see the rollers starting to dig into the aluminum and causing the slide door to open hard and would be super frustrating.
